Gallery Expo @ Expo
4321 Atlantic Avenue
562-208-4226
Twenty-three Long Beach area artists have come together at Gallery Expo for the January open call no theme exhibit. Fifty-two works of art will be shown in what might be considered the best exhibit yet at the small gallery located in the EXPO Arts Center at 4321 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach. Sculptor and art instructor Susan Hawkins has entered two life sized sculptures and two half size works that will captivate onlookers with her use of metal and plaster. The forms are graceful and rough featuring smooth, sensual curves and soft looking plaster lines interplaying with the rough almost dangerous looking rod iron and sharp edges of steel mess.
In stark contrast to Susan’s work, artist and mother Kellie Walker is back showing four of her newest works of abstract in there large format of a dominate color messed with soft lines.
Artist Bruce Barlow has created four new works for this show as well. "His work features the world in miniature from a skewed point of view that only Bruce seems to be able to pull off. Bruce's works are eccentric, unique and well crafted often harboring a dark side mixed with a dash of humor" said exhibit curator Douglas Orr.
Artists in the January Open Call are; Bruce Barlow, Susan Hawkins, Trish Ivory, Cheril Russel, Cheryl Paoline, Diane Heesen, Ellen Butler, Ione Citron, Jill Cresap, John Hess, Joray Rylee, Janet Yoo, Kellie Walker, Marcus Smith, Mark Metzner, Mike Schelly, Mitchell Iliff, Nairobi Tony, Rosemary Taggard, Douglas Orr, David Rodriguez and Patricia Marin
The exhibit runs from January 6, 2012 to January 28, 2012 and is open Fridays and Saturdays between 4 & 8pm. Free admission and parking is on the north side of the building or on the street.

Awesome! I took a pic of the outside of the building. I got there when it was closing but heard about the crowds your painting drew!
